Summer Study Excursion to Shōmyō Falls in Tateyama
The Organization for International Education and Exchange at the University of Toyama organizes study excursions every semester to provide opportunities for international students to interact with each other and with Japanese students. On June 14, we conducted our Summer Study Excursion to Shomyo Falls in the Tateyama region.
Originally, the destination was planned to be Tateyama Murodo. However, due to rockfalls on the toll road leading to Murodo, the itinerary was adjusted with safety as the top priority, and the destination was changed to the Shomyo Falls area. Despite the change in plans, the event attracted high interest, resulting in a waiting list. A total of 90 participants joined the trip, including 74 international students, 13 Japanese students, and accompanying faculty and staff.
The group first visited Shomyo Falls, the tallest waterfall in Japan, and enjoyed its magnificent view. They then explored the Tateyama Museum and the Mandala Yuen (Mandala Garden), deepening their understanding of Tateyama’s natural environment and spiritual heritage.Participants commented that they found the sites fascinating, appreciated learning about the history of the region, and enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends. The excursion offered a valuable experience of Toyama’s distinctive nature and a memorable day of cultural exchange.
